Claire Dorrell, a fellow veteran of the 1980 Reagan-Bush campaign, passed away earlier this afternoon. She was felled several days ago by a massive stroke.
My fondest memory of Claire was on election night in 1980 at the Washington Hilton where, while so many of the rest of us on the campaign staff were delirious with joy at Reagan winning, she was working her tail off chasing the national media types around getting key Reagan campaign aides in front of the cameras as possible.
I think I learned more about how the national media really worked in those days from watching Claire during the final four months of the campaign than I did in all the years before combined. She was so smart, she took guff from nobody and she was a consumate professional.
Claire served in a variety of senior communications jobs during the Reagan and both Bush administrations. She will be missed immensely, as she had lived here in the Washington area for more than 30 years. As soon as I have information on services, I will post them here on Beltway Confidential.
