The defending state champion City College of San Francisco men’s basketball team landed the top seed in the Northern California bracket of the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships on Monday.

CCSF’s title defense will begin Saturday at home against the winner of Wednesday’s early-round game between Mendocino and Contra Costa.

Raysean Hairston (13.1 points per game) and Ivan Dorsey (12.9 ppg) have carried the scoring load for the Rams (26-2) this season. A meeting with fifth-seeded Fresno City College, one of the two teams to beat CCSF this season, could be in line for the NorCal semifinals.

Citrus College (25-1) is the top seed in the Southern California portion of the bracket.

On the women’s side, both CCSF and the College of San Mateo qualified for the postseason tournament. The Rams (24-5) will begin their quest for a state crown on Saturday against the winner of the Delta-De Anza contest. CSM, the 10th seed in NorCal, hits the road for its opener Friday at No. 7 College of the Siskiyous in Weed. Foothill (Los Altos Hills) is the top seed in the NorCal bracket.

CCSF, CSM and Foothill were three of the five representatives from the Coast Conference North Division to reach the playoffs. CSM beat CCSF twice in the regular season, while CCSF toppled Foothill in both their previous matchups.

The men’s and women’s state championships will be held March 11 at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento.
