Busy Peter Bjorn and John makes time for new release

Weren’t we just discussing Peter Bjorn and John?

They happen to be in the news themselves this week — the Swedish trio has just announced the release of its new sixth album, as yet untitled, March 29, on StarTime International. And it’s a wonder they found time to record it.

Bjorn Yttling just produced records from The Suzan and the upcoming Lykke Li sophomore set. Peter Moren released his first Swedish-language effort, “I Sparev Av Taren,” and John Eriksson issued “Favorite Flair” with one side project, Holiday For Strings, and three separate EPs with another, Hortlax Cobra.

After conjuring up idyllic pop confections like their worldwide smash single “Young Folks” (with ex-Concretes diva Victoria Bergsman), these guys obviously know their way around a mixing board. But for this outing, they went outside of their Stockholm comfort zone and headed to Tambourine Studios in Malmo, where they allowed Per Sunding to produce them. What they were shooting for was prickly punk. Naturally, the album turned out sugary-sweet singalong.
