Bomb scare shuts down Tenderloin intersection

A bomb scare shut down an intersection in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood for about an hour and a half this afternoon, police
said.

A bomb squad was dispatched to the intersection of Turk and Leavenworth streets at 2:25 p.m. after a storeowner called saying someone had briefly entered his store and left behind a package that made him suspicious, police spokesman Officer Samson Chan said.

The intersection was shut down to allow the bomb squad to investigate, Chan said. The package was determined to be harmless at about 4
p.m. and the streets were reopened.
