Red Tie Gala: More than 1,500 guests filled Neiman Marcus in Union Square on Nov. 19 for a biennial local event to raise funds for Little Sisters of the Poor, whose mission is to care for the elderly living at St. Anne’s Home in San Francisco. Five floors of the store were transformed to reflect cultures of various continents where the Little Sisters organization has a presence.
Environmental Champions Awards: On Nov. 18, Environmental Working Group, which is dedicated to protecting people from health problems associated with contaminants and to improving U.S. environmental policies, awarded California public servants for their commitment to the cause. President Ken Cook presented 2010 honors to state Sens. Fran Pavley, Mark Leno and Ellen Corbett, Assemblywoman Julia Brownley, Mayor Gavin Newsom and Debbie Raphael of the San Francisco Department of the Environment.
Salvation Army Holiday Luncheon: Former San Francisco Mayor Frank Jordan accepted the organization’s Honoree of the Year award at the group’s seventh annual seasonal luncheon at the Kroc Center on Nov. 17. Jordan was recognized for five decades of service for the needy, including 30 years as an advisory council member of the Salvation Army’s Harbor Light Center.
