Fans of wearing zany costumes in San Francisco can double up today -- registration for next year's popular Bay to Breakers race is being offered at a significant Halloween discount that expires at the end of the day.

Registration for the race, scheduled for May 18, 2014, opened this morning with the one-day discounted price of $31.10, more than a third lower than the regular price of $49.

The 12K race from downtown to Ocean Beach, which is famous for the outlandish costumes -- or no costumes -- worn by participants, is being put on for the first time by Wasserman Media Group, a sports and entertainment marketing and management company.

"It's only fitting that registration for the 2014 Bay to Breakers race begins on the spirited holiday of Halloween," Casey Wasserman, the group's chairman and CEO, said in a statement.

Organizers are also giving 10 percent of proceeds for all registration sales to Tipping Point Community, which screens nonprofits to find, fund and partner with groups that most effectively provide services to low-income communities.

"We're humbled and honored to be the philanthropic recipient of San Francisco's most iconic race," Tipping Point founder and CEO Daniel Lurie said.

Children 17 and under can register for the discounted price of $15.05 today, organizers said.

More information on the race and how to register can be found online at www.baytobreakers.com.
