BART service back to normal after delays

BART service was near normal levels Monday night after a mechanical problem with a train caused major delays for rush-hour commuters heading from the Peninsula to downtown San Francisco and the East Bay.

The disabled train stopped at Balboa station because of a problem with the braking system, BART spokesman Linton Johnson said. Crews are moving the train out of the way.

“It’s going very slowly,” Johnson said.

Several trains headed to Millbrae are being turned around at Montgomery Station and the 24th Street Station to service the downtown rush hour. Delays of 15 minutes are expected in both directions, with major delays around Balboa Park.
