Bank teller saves woman from common scam

A suspicious San Francisco bank teller helped a Visitacion Valley woman from becoming the victim of a common scam on Thursday, according to Ingleside Station police.

The woman told the teller that a man in a white pickup truck came to her home that afternoon saying he worked for the water company and would charge her for repairs.

The man said he and his crew were working on other homes in the neighborhood and were charging a set price, San Francisco police said.

The woman went to the bank to withdraw money for the repairs. But the bank teller didn’t trust the story and called police.

Cops searched the area surrounding the unit block of Arleta Avenue, where the scammer and several accomplices were said to be, but they’d fled prior to their arrival, police said.
