Ervin Santana pitched 7²⁄³ superb innings while Mike Trout went 3-for-4 with a homer and three runs scored as the host Los Angeles Angels earned a split of the two-game series, beating the A’s 4-0 on Tuesday.

Albert Pujols recorded three hits and two RBIs for the Angels, who bounced back after being shut out for a major league-high eighth time Monday.

Santana (2-6) held the A’s to four hits with three walks and nine strikeouts. The veteran right-hander, who improved to 14-4 lifetime against the A’s, has allowed three runs or less in each of his past four starts.

Trout was instrumental in all the scoring. After igniting a two-run rally in the third inning with a two-out single, he delivered a one-out base hit in the fifth and stole second before scoring on Pujols’ second RBI single.

Trout then led off the seventh with a home run, depositing a 1-1 offering from Bartolo Colon (3-4) over the wall in center field for his third blast of the year and a 4-0 lead.

Colon remained winless since topping the Angels on April 18. The portly veteran surrendered four runs and 12 hits in 6²⁄³ innings, striking out three without a walk.

Collin Cowgill singled and stole a base for Oakland, which had won seven of nine at Angel Stadium.

NOTE: The A’s claimed left-handed pitcher Travis Blackley off waivers from the Giants on Tuesday. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A’s transferred right-handed pitcher Joey Devine to the 60-day disabled list. A corresponding 25-man roster move will be announced once Blackley reports to Oakland. Blackley compiled a 9.00 ERA in four appearances with the Giants before being designated for assignment on Sunday. ... Colon, who won the Cy Young Award with the Angels in 2005, is 0-3 in five starts since tossing eight scoreless innings at Los Angeles in April. ... Pujols raised his average to .212, the highest it’s been since April 30 (.217).
