Android app predicts SF weather by region

Ryan Denning, the managing director of the digital agency R/GA, in partnership with San Francisco-based Weather Underground, recently released SF Weather, a free app for Android phones that provides forecasts for 18 neighborhoods in The City.

What is SF Weather? It’s a map of San Francisco with microclimate weather information for each of the major neighborhoods.

Why did you create it? We’re relatively new to San Francisco as a company, so our creative team thought it would be a good idea to create a gift for The City that’s specific to San Francisco.

How does it work? If you have an Android device, you can go to the Marketplace, search for “SF Weather” and download it. Once you launch the app, you are shown a map of The City with summary information for each neighborhood.

Is this better than a regular weather forecast? In a forecast, there are broad degrees of explanation, but not per neighborhood. This is just a bit more immediate and local than what you get on TV or other outlets.
