Allegations against 40-year-old suspected motorcycle gang member Orlando Jesus Rodriguez make FX Network’s hit series “Sons of Anarchy” seem more like reality television.

The San Mateo man is facing a slew of charges in connection with a crowbar attack on a Hells Angels member in front of a Peet’s coffee shop, the severe beating of the mother of his child, and the discovery of nearly 17 grams of cocaine that he allegedly claimed was his personal stash.

Rodriguez’s troubles began June 22, 2011, when the alleged member of the Wanted motorcycle club — a rival of the Hells Angels — was pulled over on El Camino Real in Burlingame because his vehicle’s muffler was too loud, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. Cocaine was found in the center console, Wagstaffe said, and Rodriguez told police the whopping 16.92 grams was for “personal use.”

Less than a month later, Rodriguez was arrested on suspicion of brutally attacking the mother of his 1-year-old son in a jealous rage. She had apparently gone out drinking too late, Wagstaffe said, and so Rodriguez allegedly punished her by slamming her to the ground several times and punching her in the face.

Then came the jail incident. While locked up, Wagstaffe said, Rodriguez reportedly got into a heated argument with a Hells Angels member who also was in custody. Both men were released in March.

On March 6, Wagstaffe said, Rodriguez spotted his rival sipping coffee at a Peet’s in Belmont.

A fight ensued outside the shop and Rodriguez allegedly swung a crowbar at the man’s head. The victim blocked the blow with his left arm and suffered a severe fracture, Wagstaffe said.

After the attack, Rodriguez allegedly said, “Are you still claiming Hells Angels?” before driving off in his car.
For many, that might be enough violence for one year. However, on July 16, Rodriguez was again accused of assaulting his son’s mother.

While violating a court order, Wagstaffe said, Rodriguez showed up intoxicated to the woman’s home demanding to talk. After he reportedly forced his way in, the woman’s mother fled to the bathroom to call 911. The woman was pushed into a wall and held by the throat until she nearly passed out, Wagstaffe said.

Rodriguez then “left the home and rode off on his motorcycle,” the district attorney said.

Rodriguez remains in custody. During the span of the allegations he faces, his bail amount rose from $50,000 to $250,000 and currently sits at $2 million.

On Thursday, Rodriguez’s request to replace Public Defender Mara Feiger was granted after a judge agreed that there was a significant breakdown in their attorney-client relationship.
