Alleged carjacker takes cabbie on wild ride in Mission

This fare was a real pain in the neck.

A taxi driver was assaulted and had his cab stolen in the Mission district early Tuesday morning, police said.

The 58-year-old victim reportedly picked up three people at 18th and Valencia streets about 1 a.m. During the course of the ride, an argument ensued between the passengers, police said.

One of the passengers, a 48-year-old man, began yelling at the cabdriver before choking him from the back seat, police said.

The driver pulled over and jumped out of the cab, police said, and the passengers followed. The man who reportedly choked the driver then jumped into the driver’s seat of the vehicle and drove off, but crashed into another car a block away.

The alleged taxi thief was detained by a bystander before police arrived and arrested him.
