In the latest development in District 2 Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier’s effort to run for re-election, she sent a letter Thursday to Department of Elections Director John Arntz asking him to reconsider his previous decision not to list her as a potential candidate.
Two years ago City Attorney Dennis Herrera had issued a memo advising Alioto-Pier that she was termed out of office according to a provision in the City Charter. But Alioto-Pier has long disputed this opinion and went ahead and filed papers June 3 declaring her intent to run for re-election, but Arntz said he would not list her as candidate.
“It is my sincere desire to avoid involving the City in Litigation,” Alioto-Pier wrote. “Given the urgency of this matter, I must ask that you substantively respond to my request for reconsideration no later than 5:00 PM on Tuesday, June 15. In the event that you fail to do so, I will be forced to seek a judicial resolution of this matter.”
