Our Washington State-born mayor loses credibility when he certifies a patent fabrication. Maybe his spokeswoman, a Ms. Falvey, could convey to him how lacking in decorum this is?
The buses cocoon techies from the real world of commuting. By enabling these cushy buses, the tech drones are more likely to live in SF rather than living closer to the south bay locations of their employers. So allowing the google buses just provides the magnet to make living in SF so handy and convenient that they do it. Make the tech rich kids suffer bart and caltrain and gawd ferbid, a public bus and being a hipster living in a 3000 dollar apartment in the Mission wont seem so darn cozy.
The only reason America ever had the MOST PROSPEROUS economy was because America had the BEST PAID employees and consequently, American businesses had the customers with the most money to spend. American business owners are SO GREEDY that they are using free trade agreements, illegal immigration, and deregulation to drive down wages and destroy benefits. In their quest for short term profits, employers have destroyed their own customer base.
San Francisco mayor Edwin Lee's idea to increase the local minimum wage may momentarily stoke demand, but the Wall Street asset bubble machine will input this liquid and out-put more bubbles, with assistance from many suppliers who will simply increase pricing structures until the next wage increase. The problem does not seem to reside with the supply-demand dynamic, but with Neoliberal socio-economic policies that yield unregulated supply pricing structures, incentivized with over-capitalization flowing from the U.S. Federal Reserve, to banks and into Wall Street where asset bubbles emerge. Nominal values are vastly distorted and continue to escalate, applying pressure that impedes citizen survivability.
A final observation: The U.S. economy is experiencing shock similar to other countries where Milton Friedmon-like Neoliberalism, or what I call, weaponized economics and its outcomes, were explored in the early 1980s. These were places such as, Brasilia, Paraguay, Poland and others (read Shock Doctrine, Naomi Klein). It is working similarly to what it did in these and other countries. It shocks the foundation of an economic system into disequilibrium, replacing it with unpredictable outcomes, usually causing rent-seeking and income inequality through disequilibrium. Neoliberalism is the defiant, unheeding teenager of social engineering.
The mayor should just take it further and get it all done at once. Mandate that all jobs should pay minimum 75k+ a year no matter what. Then anyone who works in San Francisco can live there. All rent and house sales would be frozen at current rates and sales and rentals of all building would go through City Hall so no one gets screwed.
For those of you who are opposed to raising the minimum wage because "It's inflationary", what's you opinion about all the tax breaks being given to Twitter and other so called tech companies?
Without having to pay taxes, these companies have more money to spend on rent and drive up the cost of housing. Because of the tax breaks, they are also consuming government services without paying their share. I guess the failed economic model of trickle down economics is just fine for big business, but giving some low income worker is inflationary.
THis is just another bubble !!! Do you remember the DOT-COM. DUH, DUH, DUH... Way to go SF. A commie just loves to spend others money faster than they can spend themselves!!!!! Leftist/fascists as they really are!!!!! Hey MR. LEEE why don't you donate some of your corrupt $$$$$$ your skimming!!!!
It's a further assault on the SF middle class.
ah, a Christmas tree by any other name...
Notice no mention of cooperation with the police dept. Who do they think enforces the laws that are too often ignored now? If you want to see people behave, put a police car in view. Ed Resikin's rigorous technical analysis is yet another promise to "study the problem". Unsaid is how the city, through the mayor's office, has convened meetings on ped safety for more than a decade - and guess what we have? Uh, more studies.
Why wouldn't it be mandatory for the Sheriffs department to 'sweep' the building at least twice a day in order to know whats going on, there main job is to protect the building and it's occupants.
Google, Twitter, Facebook and others are incentivized by “The Washington Consensus.” However, take away the “debt bubble” and then see if Google's NASDAQ “asset bubble” will deflate so that it might attract fewer inflation enthusiasts who generate little in terms of GDP value, but diminishing quality of life to Americans.
The San Francisco Examiner phrase, “ … and issues involving mentally ill patients,” related to violent actions at San Francisco General Hospital, constitutes an anathema and unfairly targets those mentally ill with the potential for adverse safety actions, before-thought. based on little more than hysteria. I posit that “the mentally ill” are no more prone to violent actions than sane individuals. In fact, sane humans can do more harm since safety officers, once deployed, have already been briefed about the subject (he or she is mentally ill!) and who appear, sidearm ready … POP, POP, POP! Subject neutralized.
Marxism at its best as the free crap army wants more free stuff. Let the market decide affordability matters and keep the commie government out of the equation. Wouldn't you know that the instigator was a union thug .... they should be charged with instigating a riot. Unfortunately, the cowardly Marxists under the golden dome are all bought off by the Commie unions.
The place needs a thorough deodorizing and cleansing. It stinks in some parts of the Library. Simply not fair to staff and patrons to have to endure filth.
It's an ASSAULT (as in abuse) on our senses. It discourages people from using the Library for its intended uses.
Jason Grant Garza here ... yes, SFGH security and the Sheriff ... on November 27, 2013 I went to SFGH (Medical Records) to drop off another IDR (Immediate Disclosure Request) under Sunshine in order to get my own medical records for a false 5150 committed by SFPD on 9/18 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XzuUtR-7hQ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJlOgdW5QHk . This was after going in before and trying to followup on a prior IDR made https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73mXXE8KJ-g
I was arrested by the Sheriff .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABIdrEsAx4I . Now, know ... NO ONE enforces MEDICAL LAW sort of like the violations (Civil Rights, etc) that the LA Sheriff department is facing problems over .... http://www.sfgate.com/news/crime/article/18-LA-sheriff-s-officials-charged-in-jail-probe-5050203.php . I wonder if the FBI could come and INVESTIGATE ???
Please watch over 250 videos to learn the GAMES, INHUMANITY and Non-Performance ....
"in a TIME of Universal Deceit ... telling the TRUTH is a Revolutionary Act." George Orwell
P.S. I still do not have my medical records that I sunshined, IDR'ed, went in and complied with HIPAA to receive and was denied. Ask yourself ... how can I or better yet yourself be denied your OWN medical records ... watch the videos ... learn the GAMES and LAWBREAKING ... since NO ONE enforces Medical Law and apparently federal HIPAA law either.
In case any has forgotten; San Francisco is named after Francis of Assisi who cared for the poor.
These are public libraries; perhaps the la-di-das should go to a private library. I'd be giving out meals and towels for showers. That's what people need; why don't we give it to them?
Up till now the media has omitted that security be it the sheriff's department staff or police have to deal with on a daily occurrence. I was omitted to emergency at SFGH and spent 4 days in hospital, what an eye opener, the abuse and hardships caused by patients was unreal, yet the nurses and Doctors kept there cool.
this guy is a ticking time bomb for any mayor allowing him control of this dept. Such a disaster in huge proportions!
Rightly or wrongly, there is a strong perception that Mayor Lee and the Board Of Supes has given away the farm to the so called tech industry. Huge tax breaks and other perks must be paid for by other residents who are struggling.
There was an article several weeks ago about the elevators being chronically out of order in a city operated housing project and residents stranded on upper floors. Apparently, none of the booming economy has trickled down to the lower income residents and public services are still underfunded.
Sooner or later, this situation is going to turn ugly.
