Re: “Fallen woman stands tall in SF Opera’s ‘Traviata’

It's not getting better. Tonight's performance was decidedly worse. It was without comparison, the absolute worst performance of anything I have ever seen... ever.

Re: “Performers make most of ‘SAGA of the 21st Century Girl’

Dear Mr. Serinus-
I am not sure how old you are. I am 27 and I honestly did not understand anything you wrote in your first paragraph. I asked someone and they said you were referring to shows that happened 40 years ago. Speaking from my perspective I want to say that people are not attracted to opera in my age group and younger. This opera was more attractive because it had the word rock in the title and because I found out it was 75 minutes long. I believe that all mediums change with time and it's probably a good idea if reviewers changed along with the medium in order to understand it better.
I was upset by the story because it is so real. Although I felt compassion for all of the characters I was also horrified. And it was different than a movie because it was so immediate. The music was awesome. Having an electric bass and an electric piano and including so many salsa rhythms made me feel right at home. San Francisco is an eclectic town and I heard many different cultures in the music with a story that is timeless.

Re: “Performers make most of ‘SAGA of the 21st Century Girl’

Well, regardless of what it billed itself as, I thought the Friday night show was a total blast. Yes, the orchestration was a bit on the chamber-music scale, but what would you expect, given today's arts funding? I'm sure "Jesus Christ, Superstar" would be just as compelling with an acoustic The singing was virtuosic, with difficult and complicated melodies and landmines of unexpected rhythm and meter changes (even in the repetitive parts, did you catch them?) expertly navigated in unisons and thirds. I loved it.

Re: “Young musicians on the rise at SF Symphony

No wonder I do not like the symphony. Look at the photo and then convince me that Black kids do not have musical talent.

Re: “Classical stars, Haitian kids unite for benefit

Deborah Voight needs to keep her weight down. Fat opera singers must go away. They hurt performances and themselves. Opera needs more hot chicks.

And what made it more impressive for us, was the enormous support for a vigil in support LGBT Russians, which was staged outside the Opera House. Thank You Patricia Racette and San Francisco Opera and War Memorial Opera House Management your support and encouragement.

Re: “The dogged determination of Bernadette Peters

FOOTNOTE FROM THE AUTHOR: Bernadette truly lives her mission. During the interview we chatted about the fact that my husband and I have been dogless since Skeeter, our beloved Yorkie died a peaceful death at the ripe old age of 17.5 about a year ago. When Bernadette visited Muttville this weekend she met a little fellow whom she thought we should know and as of this afternoon there is one less homeless dog in San Francisco!

Re: “The dogged determination of Bernadette Peters

Miss B has a huge heart and from what I hear truly gives her heart and energy to helping out animals. Not mentioned- but on her trip I heard she asked to visit SPCA as well as Muttville. With all the great wonderful things to do on a short visit to SF I think that shows where her heart is.

Have always appreciated Bernadette Peters' talent. Now i love her even more knowing she shares passion for humane, sane treatment of dogs... And hopefully all animals, I bet.

Re: “New opera puts Mary Magdalene in different light

SF Opera's "The Gospel of Mary Magdalene" was pretty bad. Slow story, bad music, and weak singing sunk the whole show. It needs campy elements and hot chicks a la "Salome."
