Re: “San Francisco appears out as host of next America's Cup

@TinyTim Right, then San Francisco can fulfill its destiny as sleepy retirement village, open air insane asylum, and homeless mecca that the city founders intended it to be.

Re: “San Francisco appears out as host of next America's Cup

Good news. Bermuda--far, far away could probably use it. Next step, "decomission" Blue Angels' 3-day buzzing of our fair City with ear-shattering fly-overs every October. Shell-shocked veterans, animals and others are not amused. And no one will be amused when a stunt goes awry (and they have before) and there's loss of life.

Re: “Oracle Team USA continues to put pressure on Emirates Team Zealand

Ellison is probably just doing some more cheating and hasn't been caught yet.
Thanks again, Ed Lee for wasting $30 million in taxpayer money on this embarrassing debacle!

Re: “Oracle stays alive in race for America’s Cup

"...expected to begin seeing flood tides, meaning the water is flowing out of San Francisco Bay,"

actually a flood is when water comes into the bay, with the prevailing wind.

Re: “Crew change doesn't stop Oracle's slide in America's Cup

To the commentator below

Very funny but let me say if you are interested in sheep do not come to where I live where the Pacific Ocean intersects the Canterbury Plains - you will find it hard to find a sheep let alone an attractive one.

Regarding the controversy over SF hosting the cup this is a decision for the people of San Francisco not ourselves but I assume SF is a democratic municipality.

And the allegation of a "rich boys club" - let me say that there are no rich boys in the NZ camp, or backing the NZ challenge, so maybe it is possible to come up with a competitive boat on a tiny budget with a little imagination and creativity.

And the "dangerous" allegation. The tragic loss of the Atemis crew member was as a result of structural failure of the boat or an engineering issue rather than the inherently dangerous nature of the contest. All extreme sports have an inherent level of risk.

Great match racing today - it doesn't come anymore exciting than that!

Re: “Crew change doesn't stop Oracle's slide in America's Cup

Well, my kiwi friend, if you find this to be exciting, it's too bad you didn't get to host the event! Beats sheepboinking and kakapo dancing, I suppose . . but we in SF didn't want this hot mess, and it's costing us money we just don't have. But it is proof of karma . .. Larry Ellison should be keelhauled and forced to pay the City back. And just look, he got to set the rules, pick the place, got caught cheating, and probably cheated a lot more but didn't get caught, and he is literally getting blown out of the water. Dunno about you in SF, but as for me, I'd've preferred to keep the 49ers and let someplace else have the "honor" of this. And those racing cats are buttugly as well as extremely unsafe.

Re: “Crew change doesn't stop Oracle's slide in America's Cup

I, along with thousands of others in NZ, have been watching live telecasts of the racing along with the graphics app on my ipad. It is the most exciting yachting racing I have ever seen. San Franscisco Bay is a beautiful and ideal place to host the racing and the US spectators have been good natured and friendly, when interviewed, despite their lack of a competitive boat for the races. However the racing has been close enough to be real match racing at times.

It is as much a contest of technology and boat design as team work and tactical ability giving the whole spectacle another dimension. I like the evolutionary and cutting edge nature of this side of the contest as much as anything else.

Congratulations to all involved in bringing this amazing spectacle into our living rooms.

Re: “Crew change doesn't stop Oracle's slide in America's Cup

I have been watching it, but the boats do not look like sailboats. In addition all the advertising plastered on the boats ruins any aesthetic appeal, which is so much a part of sailing. I watched only two races and that was enough for me. If NZ wins I hope they return the the elegance to the sport, and use real sailboats. I think they owe this to the world because, if I remember correctly, it was one of their own who ruined the race in San Diego with his big boat sneak attack, leading to Connor's subsequent response with a catamaran.

Did Oracle Team USA really win this race? Just asking, based on past instances of rules violations.
