This is NOT in the Excelsior district. It is in the Portola district. There are many plans to revitalize San Bruno Avenue with the support of many good folks in the neighborhood. Four Barrel Coffee opened up in October and there are other new businesses in the works so come check out the area!

Pamela — You bring up a good point, that some people assume we are presenting these the 100 Greatest Wineries in the World; we are very explicitly presenting them as the 100 Greatest Wineries from the wines we tasted this past year. And while we taste a lot of California wine, as that is the biggest player in the US market, we taste much more imported wine. The ratio of domestic to imported wines is reflective of what we taste over the course of a year. We believe the selection is diverse. And, most of all, we believe the selection is delicious.

Thanks for the Livermore Valley wine story! I have always maintained that Livermore is as capable as any region in the world (Napa included) to grow world-class Bordeaux varieties, and there are a lot of winemakers here who are working hard to prove my contention true.
Every week, Livermore Valley becomes a better and better place to spend a winetasting weekend. New wine bars and restaurants are constantly opening downtown: hotels are just a few minutes from more than 50 wineries; and there is a sense of camaraderie and welcome here that is missing in many more famous areas.
Only an hour from SF, 40 minutes from San Jose and Oakland, nearer to Walnut Creek, the Livermore Valley really is the Bay Area's Wine Country.
Visited Davin and the Prospect on my way out of San Francisco and back to San Diego a couple of weeks ago. Love the atmosphere and quality drinks/food. Definitely my first stop on my next visit!
