74-year-old driver assaulted after fender-bender

A 74-year-old man was seriously wounded after being punched by a driver following a fender-bender in the Bayview Tuesday.

At about 5 p.m., police said, the suspect's vehicle bumped the senior’s vehicle in a parking lot near 3rd Street and Wallace Avenue.

Both men reportedly got out of their vehicles, and at one point the suspect punched the 74-year-old, who fell and struck his head on the ground. He was transported to the San Francisco General Hospital with injuries that were initially considered life threatening. His condition as of Tuesday morning was not immediately known.

The unknown suspect fled the scene in his vehicle, police said. No arrest was reported.
