With each passing game, the 49ers’ passing game is emerging. On Sunday, the team wanted to feature wide receiver Michael Crabtree and he responded with six catches for 67 yards and three crucial third-down conversion catches on the 49ers’ clinching drive in the fourth quarter.

Not only did Crabtree get open, but his fearless runs after the catch are what moved the chains. Crabtree said after the game he was moved after his dropped pass in the first half.

“[I] felt bad on one third down I dropped the pass and I felt like I had to redeem myself,” Crabtree said.

Crabtree worked in tandem with tight end Vernon Davis to get open. Once coverage rolled to Davis, Crabtree got loose and the reverse was also true. Davis and Crabtree combined for 11 of quarterback Alex Smith’s 20 completions for 140 yards and two touchdowns.

But what does all this mean for Randy Moss, Crabtree’s childhood idol? Apparently, Moss was not featured in this game like he was in Green Bay and the result was just one catch for 14 yards and a pass interference penalty in the end zone that led to a touchdown.

Coach Jim Harbaugh said Moss is accepting his status as a role player.

“Nobody around here ever gets caught up with ‘The Guy’ terminology,” Harbaugh said. “It’s about us, it’s about the team. And Randy, there’s no evidence that he’s concerned about ‘The Guy’ tag. He knows football. He knows the team that plays best is going to win the game. He’s been about that.”

But that doesn’t mean Moss might not be featured against a favorable matchup.

“There are a lot of possibilities there,” Harbaugh said. “You’d like to have your opponent think about all those different possibilities.”
