3-Minute Interview: Stacy London

The star of TLC’s hit show "What Not To Wear" and co-host Clinton Kelly are in town this week taping the program.

What brings you to the Bay Area? Makeovers for three women, including Olympic swimmer Tara Kirk, a hair stylist named Kandiss and a textile designer who looks like an upholstered sofa.

With Mother’s Day, do you have any special fashion advice for moms? It depends on what your mom does, what she’s built like. One goal is to make things as easy as possible. Mothers don’t often take care of themselves; they need to try and make themselves their own priority.

Do you give your mom fashion tips? All the time.

What do you think of poorly dressed people who come up to you and say they love the show? I want to say to them, "Are you watching with the volume turned down?"

Is there anything you wouldn’t wear? I don’t dress too young. I’ve also gained weight recently, and that affects my choices, and makes me kind of simpatico with a lot of the people on the show.

Do you notice certain styles in certain regions of the country? It has to do with the weather; you see people bundled up in Chicago. In the South, there are lots of bright colors and big prints. San Francisco has a little bit of the grunge associated with Seattle.

How do you deal with the psychological aspects of telling people what to wear and dealing with their body issues? It’s an absolutely essential component. We give constructive criticism; the idea is to be truthful and help people see their potential.

If you could offer just one piece of fashion advice, what would it be? Make sureyour clothes fit.
