Melber is a store manager at Black Diamond Sports, a sponsor of the third annual Menlo Park Skate Jam that took place over the weekend. It was Melber’s second year attending and promoting the three-day downhill skateboarding event.

How was this year’s event different from the past two years’ events?

The ramps set the event apart this year. We added a lot more jumps this year to make the event more dynamic. It was really cool and even more exciting to watch. We also had The Dutch Goose, a local restaurant, come out and cater the event.

Whom do you encourage to participate?

Anyone with experience. The hill closed off for the event is pretty steep, so I’d discourage inexperienced skateboarders from participating. Instead, they should come and watch to see what skateboarding is all about. It’s a blast to watch.

Which part of the event were you the most excited about?

The whole thing. I’m really excited to get all the kids from the community out there and skating together. A large amount of the people who participate are in high school, and it’s great to see them skating together and having a good time.
