(1) Cheat on your wife; (2) Lose your seat in Congress; (3) Become a lobbyist

"Married GOP Congressman Chris Lee Tells Craig's List Woman He’s Divorced Lobbyist - which he will be, in 2 years."

That was comedian John Fugelsang on Twitter last night. There's an element of truth to that. Look at some recent case studies:

Bob Livingston (R-La.) resigned from Congress when the Speaker of the House gavel was within reach after Hustler magazine reported on his extramarital affairs amid the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Livingston is now a successful lobbyist, running his own firm, which -- at least until recently -- included Egypt among its clients.

Tim Hutchinson (R-Ark.) lost reelction in 2002 after he divorced and later married a top staffer. One Arkansas publication alleged an affair. Today he works on K Street at Dickstein Shapiro.

Vito Fossella (R-N.Y.) quit Congress after it came out he had fathered a child with a DC lobbyist. Vito is now a managing director at Park Strategies, a lobbying firm.

Chris Lee is only a two-term congressman, so he doesn't have the same clout as Livingston, Hutchinson, and Fossella, but who knows?
