AT&T Park — Injured San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner’s journey towards rehab from a broken finger continued with a bullpen on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-5 left-hander threw 30 pitches session before Wednesday’s series finale with the Cincinnati Reds, and could be back by the end of the month.
Bumgarner threw all of his pitches, manager Bruce Bochy said, and will continue throwing on Saturday. He will then face live hitters Tuesday as the Giants travel to Houston, before his first minor league rehab assignment, scheduled for May 26.
Bumgarner had surgery in March to have three pins inserted into his left pinky finger. He broke the finger in the third inning of his final spring training start, when his left hand was struck by a line drive by Kansas City’s Whit Merrifield. The ball displaced the fifth metacarpal, the bone that leads from the hand to the pinky finger.
