Local artists of all ages, skill levels and media will have the opportunity to showcase their city today at the third annual Paint Burlingame Day. Painters will pick up brushes at 9 a.m., working throughout the day to complete a work of art before it goes on display at the Burlingame Historical Society Museum, located within the Burlingame Caltrain station.

“I think when artists look at a city, they see it with a different set of eyes,” said Russ Cohen, vice president of the Burlingame Historical Society. “We often take our town for granted, but when you pick a place to paint, you begin to appreciate what it has to offer.”

From 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., the public will be able to view and purchase completed paintings, as well as bid on auction items and commemorative posters. While artists are not required to sell their paintings, almost all items were purchased last year, Cohen said.

“This is a great opportunity for people to come see wonderful paintings by all ages in all mediums,” Cohen said. “It’s a rare occasion for people to see Burlingame in a different light.”

While the works are on display, a group of four judges — each with a fine-arts background — will choose this year’s winners, who will be awarded cash prizes and gift certificates from the Studio Shop and Art Attack.
