Report: Durant takes pay cut in new contract

A year ago today, Kevin Durant shocked the world by announcing he was signing with the Golden State Warriors.

On Monday, the 2017 NBA Finals MVP took a paycut after waiting to ensure Andre Iguodala and Stephen Curry could maximize their income this offseason, according to media reports.

As first reported by ESPN, Durant is expected to sign a two-year contract (with a player option in the second season of the deal) for $53 million. That shakes out to about $9 million fewer than he could’ve made under a max contract.

Durant is expected to opt out after next season, when he’ll make $25.9 million.
