It’s been a virtual eternity. But the word is finally out. The Red Hot Hot Chili Peppers — absent from the scene since 2006’s “Stadium Arcadium” — will return on Aug. 30 with a brand-new studio set on Warner Brothers, “I’m With You.” It, too, will be produced by veteran studio whiz Rick Rubin, who’s helmed the quartet’s last five sets, starting with their definitive 1991 masterpiece “Blood Sugar Sex Magik.”

Right now, the band is playing it close to the vest — all that’s known is that it was recorded at both East West studios in Los Angeles, and also Shangri-La in Malibu. Fans are invited to stay tuned for updates at www.redhotchilipeppers.com.

And for any of you who might’ve forgotten the band’s significance, it’s good to remember that they’ve won six Grammys, sold over 60 million albums and logged the most No. 1 singles at Alternative Radio, a total of eleven.

On just “Stadium Arcadium” (which debuted at No. 1 in 28 countries), they logged three No. 1 Modern Rock hits, “Dani California,” “Tell Me Baby” and “Snow (Hey Oh).”

The lineup remains: vocalist Anthony Kiedis, charismatic bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. And before they hit the states, they’ll be blasting through Hong Kong on Aug. 9, then Japan, and also Brazil’s Rock In Rio festival in September.
