S.F. Symphony summer soiree: Michael Tilson Thomas, music director of the San Francisco Symphony, and Joshua Robison opened their home earlier this month to patrons and musicians for a gathering held to anticipate the symphony’s 2010-11 season opening gala. The Sept. 7 concert will feature a guest perfomance by soprano Jessye Norman. 

 

SFMOMA opens big Fisher Collection
 
Opening gathering: Supporters of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art on Wednesday celebrated “Calder to Warhol: Introducing the Fisher Collection.” On view through Sept. 19, the comprehensive exhibit features 160 modern and contemporary works in a configuration that showcases the depth and quality of pieces collected by Gap Inc. founders Doris and Donald Fisher. 

 

LGBT leaders take pride

VIP Pride Party 2010: Leaders in the LGBT community were on hand Thursday at the Clift Hotel at a bash to honor 40 years of San Francisco pride, as well as kick off this year’s big weekend. Hosted by Mark Rhoades and sponsored by PG&E, the event, a benefit for New Leaf Services, also served as a tribute to work done by prominent and hard-working gay and lesbian activists and business people.
