Recology driver killed in collision near SF General Hospital

A 42-year-old Recology truck driver was killed in a collision early Friday morning while delivering a garbage compactor to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, according to police.

Jeremy Gordon, a 24-year Recology employee, died after a collision that occurred at 6 a.m. in the 800 block of Potrero Avenue near the hospital.

He was making the delivery by himself, and no other injuries occurred from the incident, according to Officer Robert Rueca.

The cause of the collision remains unknown. Recology is assisting police and the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health in their investigation, according to Recology’s public relations manager, Robert Reed.

Gordon was a San Francisco resident and second-generation employee for The City’s contracted waste management company.

“He will be remembered by all of us as a genuinely nice person who always had a good word,” Reed said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to his family and his fellow employee-owners across all the Recology companies.”
