Pride 2015: Pink Triangle and Pink Party

The 20th Pink Triangle was installed and displayed atop Twin Peaks in San Francisco on Saturday, June 27, 2015. Hundreds of volunteers participated in the installation to kickoff the weekend’s Pride festivities.

Though it originated as a Nazi concentration camp badge that identified homosexuals, the pink triangle has be reclaimed as a symbol of pride and gay rights. The annual installation is historical reminder of hate and intolerance as well as a celebration of progress.

A commemoration was held after the installation was completed. Mayor Ed Lee, Supervisor David Campos, LGBT rights activist Tom Ammiano and several others spoke about the advancements that have been made in the LGBT community and the work that must still be done.

The Pink Triangle event was followed by the annual Pink Party, a lively block party in the Castro, hosted by LGBT nonprofit organizations.
