The College of San Mateo will be busy this weekend as it plays host to three Northern California playoff competitions, highlighted by two league champions.
The CSM softball team (36-4) earned the second seed in the NorCal playoffs and begins a best-of-three series with No. 15 American River (Sacramento, 23-15) on Saturday.
The Bulldogs won the Coast Conference North championship, snapping Ohlone’s stranglehold on the league title, and had won 20 in a row before dropping their final contest.

The Irish bats showed up early and cranked out 12 hits to score their highest run total of the West Catholic Athletic League season in a 7-2 win on the road against Riordan.

OAKLAND — In his first appearance since signing his new five-year, $112.5 million contract, Matt Cain went five innings and allowed two runs as the Giants beat the A’s 3-2 in exhibition action.
Cain, who threw 78 pitches, scattered five hits and struck out six.
