WikiLeaks suspect Bradley Manning won’t be SF Pride parade marshal

A protest is planned today in support of Bradley Manning, the openly gay Army private who is charged in a massive leak of U.S. secrets and who was reportedly wrongfully named a grand marshal for The City’s Pride parade in June. The president of San Francisco Pride said Friday that Manning, who is accused of providing the WikiLeaks website with U.S. intelligence, will not be an honorary grand marshal after all. Read More

Nevada governor speaks to patient dumping allegations

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval is responding to allegations that his state is dumping psychiatric patients in other locales, including San Francisco, after they’re discharged. Sandoval issued a statement Tuesday saying disciplinary action was taken after he learned that at least one patient was improperly discharged from Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital in Las Vegas. He added that a new policy was implemented weeks ago to strengthen oversight, and he denied Nevada had a policy of dumping. Read More

A dozen people protesting Wells Fargo’s mortgage policies disrupted a shareholders’ meeting in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, and one of them tried to make a citizen’s arrest of CEO John Stumpf. And in San Francisco, about 30 demonstrators gathered outside Wells Fargo’s headquarters on Montgomery Street in the Financial District to mourn what they said were losses caused by the bank. Man shocked with stun gun during melee on BART train

A passenger reportedly fired a stun gun during a battle for a seat on a rush-hour BART train Wednesday morning, the transit agency said. A fight between passengers broke out just before 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to news reports, as a San Francisco International Airport-bound train approached the Pleasant Hill station. Witnesses said a younger man swung at an older man while arguing over a seat. The older man then wrapped the younger man in a headlock, police said, and at that point a third passenger pulled out a stun gun and fired it at the younger man. Read More
