San Francisco’s Shannon Rowbury easily moved into the semifinals of the 1,500-meter race on Monday at the London Olympics after she turned in a solid time of 4 minutes, 06.03 seconds.Rowbury, who was the highest-qualifying American, finished seventh in her heat, but her time would have been fast enough to win either of the other two qualifying heats. As the closing date for two popular San Francisco medical marijuana dispensaries approaches, patients took to the streets Wednesday afternoon to "mourn" the loss.
Hundreds gathered at Haight and Steiner streets at 4 p.m. to protest the closure of the Vapor Room and HopeNet before marching down Haight Street toward City Hall.
All participants wore black and some carried empty coffins to represent the death of the dispensaries.
Occupy San Francisco live streamed the event.

A four-alarm fire that caused $2.4 million in damage to San Francisco’s Pier 29 last month was apparently caused by welders doing work in the building, a Fire Department spokeswoman said Monday.
The fire was reported about 1:50 p.m. June 20 at the two-story waterfront building at the intersection of The Embarcadero and Sansome and Chestnut streets.

The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the death of 25-year-old Natasha Noland, who was killed after she and another woman were ejected from a party bus late Friday night, a CHP spokesman said.
The fatal accident occurred just before midnight on state Highway 17 near state Highway 9 in Los Gatos, CHP officer D.J. Sarabia said.
