IndyCar driver J.R. Hildebrand, a Sausalito native, will pay a visit to 49ers headquarters in Santa Clara on Thursday, where he will show off the team-themed paint scheme for his No. 4 car.
Niners coach Jim Harbaugh is a co-owner of Panther Racing, which has the No. 4 National Guard car in Sunday’s GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma. The car will be painted scarlet and gold, with the familiar 49ers logo on the rear wing.
The No. 4 is in honor of Harbaugh, who wore that jersey when he played for the Indianapolis Colts. Hildebrand’s fire suit will also be 49ers-themed.

A’s second baseman Jemile Weeks, who had an outstanding rookie season last year and was considered a cornerstone of the team, was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, clearing a spot for newly acquired shortstop Stephen Drew.
Weeks hit .303 last season and was the A’s regular second baseman for most of this season. But he is hitting just .220 this year.
Drew, acquired Monday from the Arizona Diamondbacks, started at shortstop and hit second for the A’s Tuesday night. Adam Rosales started at second base.

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, PA. — Left-hander Quinton Gago scattered two hits over 5¹⁄³ innings as Petaluma National remained alive in the U.S. bracket of the Little League World Series by beating Fairfield, Conn., 5-0 in Tuesday.
Shortstop Hance Smith hit a three-run homer for Petaluma, which advances to face the loser of today’s game between unbeatens San Antonio and Goodlettsville, Tenn. Petaluma would have to win Thursday’s 5 p.m. semifinal game to advance to Saturday’s 12:30 p.m. U.S. championship game.

The A’s added veteran shortstop Stephen Drew from the Arizona Diamondbacks in a trade for minor-league infielder Sean Jamieson late Monday.
Drew, who missed 137 games with Arizona from July 21, 2011, through June 26 due to a fractured right ankle, was batting .193 with eight doubles, one triple, two home runs and 12 RBIs in 40 games since returning to the Diamondbacks.

First baseman Danny Marzo hit a walk-off home run to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning to keep the Petaluma National Little League team alive at the Little League World Series with a 5-4 victory against Parsippany-Troy, N.J. on Monday.
Marzo went 2-for-4 and scored two runs for the winners in the extra-inning affair, representing the West Region. Teammates Bradley Smith and Hance Smith also had two hits apiece. Logan Douglas pitched the final 2¹⁄³ innings and got the win.
