A woman was robbed of her purse in the Tenderloin early Wednesday morning, police said. The 46-year-old victim was walking in the 500 block of Geary Street about 1 a.m. when a man in his 20s approached from behind, police said. The crook grabbed her purse and fled on foot, police said. S.F. woman catching Z’s on coastal highway busted for DUI

She was asleep at the wheel. A San Francisco woman was arrested for drunken driving in Princeton on Monday after a sheriff’s deputy found her passed out in her car, police said. Heidi Wood, 39, was parked in the No. 2 lane of the North Cabrillo Highway at Capistrano Road about 11 p.m. with the engine still running, police said. Driver accused of hit-run, runs into more trouble

A 32-year-old Antioch man was reportedly driving erratically near the intersection of Eighth and Brannan streets about 9 p.m. Wednesday,  police Officer Albie Esparza said. A police patrol car gave chase, Esparza said, but had to stop for safety reasons. However, Randall Evans ended up striking a vehicle on northbound Sixth Street, Esparza said. You didn’t win the lottery; you got ripped off

The check may be in the mail, but it ain’t real. Police are warning residents about a check scam targeting San Francisco residents, Officer Gordon Shyy said in a statement Thursday. In the scam, potential victims are mailed a letter saying they won $135,000 from “The National Lottery” in England, Shyy said. Enclosed with the letter is a fraudulent check for $3,750, payable to the recipient. The amount is said to cover a British tax on the “winnings,” Shyy said. Read More

2 men sought in Mission sex assault

Police are seeking the public’s help in tracking down two predators wanted in connection with a Mission district sexual assault last month. On June 15, about 2 a.m., a woman reported that she was attacked in the area of Mission Street and Erie Alley, police said. One of the men put the victim in a bear hug and sexually assaulted her. The first suspect was described as a black man in his early 20s, 5-foot-4 and 140 pounds with a piercing above his right eye, police said. A 59-year-old man was critically injured Wednesday when a shootout erupted near his Tenderloin business. The shopkeeper was outside his business in the 300 block of Hyde Street about 6:30 p.m. when a man arguing with three other men started firing shots, police Officer Gordon Shyy said. The shopkeeper was struck in the leg. The shooter reportedly fled in a dark-colored SUV driven by a woman. Detailed descriptions of the four men were not available, and no arrests have been made. Fearless woman dodges creep, late-model Volvo

A woman was walking on the 3300 block of Mission Street in Bernal Heights about 10 p.m. Monday when a man rode up on a bicycle and attempted to talk to her, police said. She ignored the man and he rode away. But soon the man reappeared, this time in a 1990s-model four-door Volvo, police said. He slowly followed her to a gas station parking lot, where he tried to force her into his car. The “victim bravely and fearlessly kicked and pushed the suspect away” before fleeing, police said. A woman was pepper-sprayed and robbed in the Richmond district Monday, police said. The woman was walking home in the 3500 block of Anza Street about 1:30 p.m. when she was grabbed from behind by two teenage girls who pepper-sprayed the victim, grabbed her purse and fled, police said. A teenage girl was robbed of her phone by a teenage boy on a Muni bus in the Mission district Monday, police said. The 16-year-old girl was on a 14-Mission bus at 20th Street and South Van Ness Avenue about 2 p.m. when a 15- to 17-year-old boy snatched her phone, police said. A man was found dead on John F. Kennedy Drive near 41st Avenue in Golden Gate Park about 5:35 p.m. Sunday, police said. The death appeared suspicious and is being investigated by the Police Department’s homicide detail, police Officer Carlos Manfredi said. A cab driver was robbed of cash in the Mission district early Wednesday, police said. The 38-year-old male victim was parked at the curb about 3:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of Mission Street when an unknown suspect who simulated having a gun inside his sweatshirt demanded the driver’s money, police said. A man and woman were robbed at gunpoint in the Western Addition on Tuesday, police said. The victims were walking in the area of McAllister and Laguna streets about 10:45 p.m. when two men approached, police said. One suspect put a gun to the back of the man’s head and demanded both the man and woman’s cellphones. The victims said they didn’t have any cellphones, so the crook demanded they give him “something,” police said. The victims turned over cash and the crooks fled.
