As if having a flat wasn’t bad enough. A man was robbed and pistol-whipped while he was changing a tire on his car near Potrero Hill on Wednesday, police said. The 35-year-old was at Evans Avenue and Cesar Chavez Street about 11:50 p.m. when a gun-wielding man in his 40s approached, police said. The crook took cash from the victim’s wallet and hit him in the head with a handgun, police said. Man sought in Diamond Heights killing of gay man

A sketch was released Thursday of a person of interest in the June 12 slaying of Steven “Eriq” Escalon, the latest example of violence targeting gay men. The man was reportedly seen getting into a cab with Escalon in front of a Castro district bar the day of his death. In March, The San Francisco Examiner reported an uptick in crimes in which gay men are drugged at bars and then robbed at their homes by men who showed interest in hooking up. Police have said many of these crimes go unreported due to embarrassment felt by the victims. Read More

Superintendent convicted of school swindle

Talk about bringing your work home. Timothy Hanretty, a former Portola Valley School District superintendent, pleaded no contest Tuesday to multiple felony charges involving millions of dollars he is accused of misappropriating from two school districts. Hanretty bilked more than $100,000 from Portola Valley schools and misappropriated almost $2 million from the Woodside school district, where he also once worked, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office said. Man injured in Mission district stabbing

A man was assaulted and stabbed in the Mission district Tuesday, police said. The 20-year-old victim was walking in the area of 14th and Minna streets about 6:50 p.m. when three men in a white mini van drove by, police said. The men got out of the van and attacked the victim, police said. One of the men stabbed the victim several times before the three of them fled in the van. Man robbed of cellphone in F-Market mugging

A man was robbed of his cellphone while riding the F-Market line Tuesday, police said. The 51-year-old victim was texting on his phone in the 700 block of Market Street about 9:15 p.m. when a man aged 25 to 30 yanked the phone from his hands and fled the streetcar on foot, police said. After arguing over fare payment at Hayes and Fillmore streets about 11:40 p.m. Saturday, a cabbie assaulted and robbed a passenger, police said. A man was shot in his buttocks and stomach, and a bullet grazed his face, on West Point Road in the Hunters Point neighborhood early Sunday, police said. A 40-year-old man was walking near City Hall on Saturday night when he was stabbed by two men who had asked what his gang affiliation was, police Officer Gordon Shyy said. The victim said he told the men he was not a gang member and that’s when they stabbed him and fled, Shyy said. Man accused of DUI in cable car collision

A driver believed to be drunk collided head-on with one of The City’s moving monuments Wednesday, sending the cable car operator to the hospital, police Officer Albie Esparza said. A blue Ford Explorer driven by 61-year-old Jeffrey Webber of Suisun City reportedly collided with the cable car at Geary and Powell streets about 10 p.m., Esparza said. Bystanders detained Webber until police arrived. The cable car operator was taken to the hospital for a minor shoulder injury, Esparza said. Webber was booked on felony DUI charges, Esparza said. She was asleep at the wheel. A San Francisco woman was arrested for drunken driving in Princeton on Monday after a sheriff’s deputy found her passed out in her car, police said. Heidi Wood, 39, was parked in the No. 2 lane of the North Cabrillo Highway at Capistrano Road about 11 p.m. with the engine still running, police said.
