One body recovered, two may be missing from water

A woman was found dead Sunday and rescue efforts are continuing for as many as two others in the water near Seal Rocks, the third weekend incident involving recreational water users. The Coast Guard said a woman — identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office as being in her mid-40s — washed up onto shore near Seal Rocks. At least one witness said there were two more people in the water, one of which was a man. No identification information was known about the possible third victim. Read More

Kite surfer hospitalized after rescue by park rangers

A kite surfer was at a local hospital Sunday evening after being pulled from the waters off San Francisco’s Ocean Beach earlier in the day by National Park Service rescue rangers who spotted the man in distress, a spokeswoman for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area said. At about 2:35 p.m., the rangers entered the water to get the kite surfer, who had signaled he was in distress, spokeswoman Alexandra Picavet said. The victim, a man from Kings Beach, a town near Lake Tahoe, had gotten tangled up in his equipment, Picavet said. Read More

The family of a woman found dead inside a suitcase floating in the Bay last week will be handing out fliers Sunday for the second day in a row, hoping to find information regarding her death. WHAT: The mandatory 2009 exploration plan BP filed for the Deepwater Horizon oil rig claimed the company could handle a spill of as much as 12.6 million gallons per day — an amount 60 times more than currently estimated for the ongoing Gulf of Mexico disaster.
