A man was beaten unconscious in a brazen Mission district robbery early Wednesday morning, police said.
The 46-year-old victim was walking near 22nd and Mission streets at about 1:50 a.m. on Wednesday when five hooligans attacked him, police said. The victim was hit numerous times in the head until he was knocked out.
After the assault, the crooks stole the man's wallet and cellphone and fled, police said. They were described by police as Hispanic men in their 20s.

The 35-year-old victim was walking eastbound on Brazil Street toward Vienna about 10:40 p.m. when he was approached by two men in their 20s, police Officer Albie Esparza said. One of the suspects pointed a gun at the victim and demanded his money.

The man was reportedly crossing Liebig Street at San Jose Avenue when he was hit by a Honda Civic, according to the report. The man shot by police while resisting arrest and driving a stolen silver BMW on Tuesday night in the Bayview district might have been involved in recent armed robberies in which a shotgun was used.
