Cal coach Jeff Tedford visited the New England Patriots camp for a week this summer and came away with some useful information.
“One of the main reasons was to look at their tight end package,” Tedford said during the Pac-12 Conference’s media day in Los Angeles on Tuesday. “That’s critical for us.”
Tedford believes he has a potential NFL tight end in Richard Rodgers, but he also needs to find a way to take some of the defensive pressure off wide receiver Keenan Allen, who figures to get increased defensive attention now that wide receiver Marvin Jones is gone.

Tiger Woods is not surprised he can return to the top of the world rankings by winning the British Open and is not feeling impatient because he has not won a major for four years, he said on Tuesday.
The 14-time major champion, who has not won one of the big four tournaments since the 2008 U.S. Open, has battled his way back to form in recent months following personal problems and injuries.
“I just try and put myself there,” he told a news conference. “I think that if I continue putting myself there enough times, then I’ll win major championships.”
