A 20-year-old woman was dragged off the street at knifepoint before a neighbor observed the attempted kidnapping and intervened, according to police.
The woman met the 55-year-old man while walking down the street in the Excelsior district Friday at 6:40 p.m., according to San Francisco police. At some point, the man pulled out a knife and attempted to drag the woman into a house, police said.
A neighbor saw the struggle and stepped in to stop the kidnapping, which occurred near Mission and Leo streets, police said.

Mark Lugo, the New Jersey resident accused of stealing a Picasso drawing from a San Francisco art gallery, was charged by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office on Friday. Lugo is accused of taking the Picasso sketch “Tête de femme,” which is valued at $275,000, from the wall of the Weinstein Gallery at Geary and Powell streets late Tuesday morning. He then reportedly strolled down the street, jumped in a cab and went back to the Hotel Palomar, where he was staying, police said.

A 27-year-old man ended up in police custody after doing his own type of recycling.
The man reportedly lighted a phone book on fire and then threw it into a recycling bin, according to San Francisco police.
Officers responded to Howard Street near Ninth Street in the South of Market neighborhood at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and detained the man.

A 28-year-old woman was held up at gunpoint after exiting her car in the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco on Wednesday night, police said.
At 10:55 p.m., the woman was approached by two men, described as being in their early 20s, at the intersection of Anderson Street and Eugenia Avenue, San Francisco police said.
One of the men pulled a handgun and demanded the woman hand over her personal property, police said. The two thieves fled with the woman’s purse, iPod, cell phone and money.
The woman was not injured in the incident.

A 25-year-old woman was robbed by knifepoint in the Tenderloin on Tuesday evening by a man who threatened to stab her.
The young woman was walking on Turk Street between Leavenworth and Hyde streets at 5:30 p.m. when she was approached from behind, according to the San Francisco Police Department.
The man, who is described as a black man between 35 and 45 years old, placed a knife to the woman’s throat and grabbed her wallet from her purse, police said.
When the woman struggled, the man threatened to stab her. The thief fled on foot after the robbery.

Three men accused of beating two people while yelling “White Power” were in court Thursday and face up to 10 years in prison if convicted on all charges connected to the attack.The people were attacked in the Tenderloin on Nov. 10 by three to five white males, according to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office. During the incident, the attackers allegedly yelled “White Power.”

There are drive-bys often in the crime news, but less heard of are walk-by crimes.On Sunday at 5 a.m., however, a crook decided to rob a business by strolling up to the drive-through window of a business in the 200 block of Bayshore Boulevard, according to the San Francisco Police Department.The suspect, described only as a black man in his 40s, reportedly drew a gun and pointed it at the victim, described as a Hispanic man in his 20s.The victim coughed up the cash from the register, and the thief absconded from the scene on foot.
