Student zapped with stun gun during tussle at school

A student was being questioned in connection with a stun gun incident at a Portrero Hill school Wednesday, one day after the campus was locked down on reports that a 14-year-old had a gun. Just before 9 a.m., police said, officers responded to the International Studies Academy at 655 De Haro St. on reports that a male student had been zapped with a stun gun. Police learned the student had been zapped on the wrist during a playful tussle with a female student, who had allegedly brought the device onto campus, police Sgt. Dennis Toomer said. Read More

Crook chats on victim's cellphone for 20 minutes before theft

A chatty thief who asked to borrow a cellphone in the Bayview on Tuesday -- and took more than 20 minutes to finish his conversation -- was arrested after he allegedly decided not to return the device, police said. Man shot in leg in Western Addition

A gunman opened fire into a vehicle that was exiting a Western Addition parking lot Tuesday night, wounding a passenger, police said. Police responded to Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center at about 9:30 p.m. on a report that a man had arrived with a gunshot wound to his leg. The 22-year-old was eventually transported to San Francisco General Hospital. He told police that he was riding in a car that was leaving a parking lot near Pierce and Turk streets when an unknown gunman walked up and opened fire. Read More

Youths sought after daunting jail escape

Two youths pulled off a daunting escape from a San Francisco juvenile detention facility Tuesday night by reportedly squeezing through a square-foot-size window and making it over a 20-foot barbed-wire fence. The boys, ages 12 and 16, escaped from the Juvenile Justice Center at 375 Woodside Ave. about 9:40 p.m. and were still on the loose Wednesday despite a thorough police search that lasted until 2 a.m., authorities said. Tablet thieves' new strategy not modern

Suspect in Nob Hill apartment complex homicide held on $3M bail

Bail was set at $3 million Tuesday for the man accused of shooting to death a 24-year-old neighbor last weekend during a dispute at their Nob Hill apartment complex. Robert E. Graves, 66, has been charged with murder in connection with the killing of Geoffrey Greer about 2:30 a.m. Saturday at a building in the 1100 block of Pacific Avenue. 14-year-old reportedly brings gun to San Francisco school

Correction: An earlier police report stated the suspect is 12 years old, when in fact he is 14. A Potrero Hill school was briefly locked down Tuesday following a report that an eighth-grader had a gun on campus, police said. A staffer at International Studies Academy at 655 De Haro St. called police about 11:15 a.m. to report that a 14-year-old boy had brought a gun onto campus, although it was not clear if anyone had seen the weapon. Man stabbed with syringe in Tenderloin

A man was stabbed in the ear with an unloaded syringe and his beer was stolen during a vicious brawl with another man in the Tenderloin Monday, police said. Police responded to Eddy and Jones streets at about 1 p.m. and found a 43-year-old man bleeding, with a puncture wound to his ear. The injury was minor and the victim refused medical attention, police said. Read More

Poor grades turns Academy of Art student into thief

Poor grades apparently caused an Academy of Art University student to steal a bicycle from one of his school’s campuses, according to police. The thief was reportedly captured on video March 26 swiping a Fuji bike from the campus at 601 Brannan St. On April 4, police said, a “very observant” security guard spotted the suspect and identified him as a student. “The thief said he stole the bicycle for financial reasons, because his financial aid was going to be cancelled due to poor grades,” police at Southern Station said. San Francisco Muni rider slashed with knife during robbery attempt

Imagine being cooped up on a Muni bus with bloodthirsty, knife-wielding robbers. That’s what happened last weekend to a 22-year-old man who was riding the 28-19th Avenue bus on Doyle Drive toward the Golden Gate Bridge. About 1 p.m. Saturday, police said, the victim was seated near the back of the bus when three thugs approached him and demanded his money. Underground street fighting idea leads to threats

A man was arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot a Bayview woman last week after her husband rejected his plan to start an underground street fighting operation. At about 1:10 a.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to the 1000 block of Innes Avenue on a call about a possibly armed man. A 41-year-old woman reportedly told the officers that a man who just met her husband earlier that day had come to her home and threatened to “put a bullet in her head.” Read More

San Francisco police abandon stun gun plan

Police Chief Greg Suhr has zapped a pilot project that would have armed 5 percent of The City’s police force with stun guns, arguing that the plan suggested by community members was so restrictive that officers saw no point in carrying the devices. Suhr’s plan would have given 118 stun guns to officers who are specially trained to handle people who suffer from a mental illness. The devices are intended to immobilize people by delivering 50,000 volts of electricity. Read More

A man whose car was rammed during a parking dispute in the Upper Haight on Tuesday certainly got a good look at the other driver, as he reportedly had a lot to say about the suspect’s breasts. Police were called to Haight and Cole streets just after 5 p.m. about the parking dispute. The victim said the suspect fled after striking his car with hers. Marc Anthony Furlan pleads not guilty to gruesome Pacifica slaying

The man accused of butchering and bludgeoning his friend more than 50 times with a knife and hammer in Pacifica last year pleaded not guilty to the murder charge Wednesday, according to prosecutors. Marc Anthony Furlan, 24, allegedly killed 24-year-old Keith Coffey on Oct. 17. The slaying occurred at Furlan’s father’s home on Dell Road and was preceded by an argument, although the motive remains under investigation. Mental illness might have played a factor, as Furlan had previously been enrolled in mental health court, according to The Daily Journal. Read More
