66-year-old woman socked during robbery

A 66-year-old woman was punched in the face by a vicious transient who tried to make off with her necklace in the Mission district Tuesday, police said. But the 4:21 p.m. robbery in the 3000 block of 25th Street was thwarted when witnesses flagged down police. Ricardo Hinojosa Gonzalez, 49, was booked on charges that include robbery and possession of marijuana for sale, along with an outstanding warrant, Sgt. Unlicensed driver admits to downing 12-pack

An unlicensed driver admitted to consuming 12 beers in two-and-a-half hours before getting behind the wheel of a van last week and plowing into parked motorcycles in the Excelsior district, according to police. An officer responded to the intersection of Mission Street and Ocean Avenue at about 8:20 p.m. Thursday and reportedly found the suspect, 44-year-old Librado Alberto Sierra of Daly City, allegedly sitting against a streetlight with bloodshot eyes and the scent of alcohol on his breath. Blessed Marvelous Herve, 41, of San Francisco, is facing as many as 20 years in prison for defrauding a Bay Area couple out of $1.6 million while posing as the son of a Congolese president, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. S.F. law enforcement to stop using condoms to arrest, prosecute sex workers

Police and prosecutors in San Francisco will no longer use condoms as evidence when arresting and charging sex workers, according to an agreement announced Tuesday between The City’s law enforcement agencies and the Human Rights Commission. The agreement followed a six-month trial period in which condoms were not used as evidence in cases. Read More

Crash probe after woman struck in crosswalk

A 56-year-old woman suffered a serious head injury Monday after being struck in a crosswalk just south of Crocker Amazon Playground, according to police. Police initially reported the incident as a hit and run Tuesday morning, but have since revised their report to say the driver did stop at the scene and cooperated with investigators. A 74-year-old man was seriously wounded after being punched by a driver following a fender-bender in the parking lot of a Bayview McDonald's on Monday. At about 5 p.m., police said, the suspect's vehicle bumped the senior’s vehicle in the lot near 3rd Street and Wallace Avenue. Read More

Former SF teahouse owner sentenced for conspiracy to deal drugs

The former owner of a Mission district teahouse has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for conspiracy to distribute large amounts of ecstasy and LSD. Oshan Cook, 35, of San Francisco, was one of four people who were charged in connection with an undercover U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency buy-bust operation in Oakland on April 22, 2010. He was wearing a backpack containing 630 grams of ecstasy and 39.9 grams of liquid LSD, and was described as the supplier for the others, U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag said. Read More

Man shot on seedy Sixth Street

A man was shot in the arm on Sixth Street early this morning, police said. The 56-year-old told police he was sitting in front of a hotel in the 100 block of Sixth Street at about 2 a.m. when he heard a gunshot and felt the sting from the bullet. He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital and is expected to survive, police said. No arrest has been reported. The victim said he didn’t know the shooter. Trivon Dixon, 27, shot dead in Bayview

A man who filmed the aftermath of a controversial officer-involved shooting in the Bayview district two years ago, then later blasted cops in a TV interview over the incident, was killed Wednesday in the same neighborhood. Trivon Dixon, 27, of Rodeo was fatally shot about 3:45 p.m. while sitting in a car in the first block of Whitney Young Circle, Officer Albie Esparza said. Another car pulled up alongside Dixon’s and a gunman stepped out and shot him, Esparza said. The gunman then reportedly hopped back in the car and fled. Read More

Transient stabbed in battle for Buena Vista Park

A man was stabbed in the back in Buena Vista Park on Wednesday during an argument over “who the park belonged to,” police said. Officers reportedly responded to the public park bordering Haight Street at about 9:30 a.m. and found the 23-year-old man suffering from a stab wound that was not life threatening. Read More

Man carjacked after asking for directions near SFGH

You can always count on the evilness of strangers. A driver who asked for directions near San Francisco General Hospital late Tuesday afternoon was led to his destination by a man who seemed rather helpful until he whipped a gun and stole the car. The victim, a 59-year-old Chinese man who speaks little English, pulled over in a black Toyota Camry near 23rd Street and Potrero Avenue to ask for directions. A man in his 20s agreed to help in exchange for a ride home. Read More

British tourists robbed near Cesar Chavez Street

Two British tourists were reportedly robbed last weekend of their camera, cash, bank cards, driver’s licenses, phones and other items as they were walking just south of Cesar Chavez Street. The female tourists, who said they were in town for only a short time, called police at about 8:45 p.m. Saturday and said they were walking in the 1500 block of York Street when the suspect approached, Ingleside Station police reported Wednesday.
