The lengthy legal saga of a San Mateo psychiatrist is set to continue after a judge Wednesday found him competent to stand trial.
William Ayres, 80, was arrested in 2007 and was charged with molesting seven youths, ages 8 to 13, during counseling sessions between 1991 and 1996. The past president of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry was also accused of molesting more than 30 others on occasions that are now beyond the statute of limitations.

On Wednesday, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission unanimously approved allocating $6.7 million in federal funds to Muni. The money can be used to finance any improvements needed for the transit system, but advocates for the free passes say the money should go there.

Police are looking for the dognapper responsible for the mysterious disappearance Tuesday of a 10-week-old puppy from the San Francisco SPCA.
Violet, a 7-pound terrier mix, was taken about 2 p.m. after an SPCA attendant had shown the puppy to a woman who was interested in adopting her. The employee and woman reportedly left the room where the dog was for several minutes and returned to find Violet missing.
Although the SPCA has surveillance cameras, there is no footage of anyone snatching her. Still, staff members insist there is no possible way she could have escaped.

A woman was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday morning and left standing barefoot on a sidewalk, police said.
The 44-year-old woman was walking in the first block of Pearl Street near Hayes Valley when two men approached with a gun and forced her to hand over her cellphone, wallet and shoes, police said. The two then fled, and no arrests had been made as of Wednesday.

The incident occurred in an apartment on Ellis Street in the Tenderloin when the 56-year-old suspect confronted his roommate about the rent money. When the roommate refused to pay up, the suspect cut him multiple times on the arm with an unknown object before fleeing the apartment, police said.
The victim was treated at a hospital for minor injuries. No arrests have been reported.

The stabbing of a 47-year-old man in the Bayview district Sunday morning somehow led to false reports that he had actually been shot while driving on the freeway, police said.
A passer-by discovered the victim slumped over the steering wheel of his car near the intersection of San Bruno and Paul avenues. After the passer-by drove him to the hospital, staff there contacted police and told them the victim had been shot while driving on Interstate 280 near the Sixth Street exit, police said.
But a shooting on the freeway never occurred.
