DALY CITY — So far, the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship has gone about as expected.
Last year’s winner, 16-year-old Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand, cruised through her two matches Thursday, beating Katelyn Dambaugh 5 and 4 before running through Ashlan Ramsey 8 and 6 at Lake Merced Golf Club to advance to today’s quarterfinals.
Jutanugarn recorded six birdies and an eagle to beat Ramsey, who had to go 20 holes in her morning round to win. Ramsey didn’t blame her loss on fatigue, however.

Scores improved with the weather at the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship at Lake Merced Golf Club on Tuesday, as eight golfers finished under par for the round.
Ariya Jutanugarn, the only one to shoot under par Monday, remained atop the leaderboard, shooting a 1-under-par 71 to bring her two-day score to 2-under 142, earning her medalist honors.
The defending champion said her game was still not where she wanted it, however.

The headliner at the tournament will be Lydia Ko, the world’s top-ranked player who was born in South Korea but grew up in New Zealand.
Ko, 15, was one of three amateurs to make the cut at the U.S. Women’s Open in Kohler, Wis.

The Warriors introduced their three newest members Monday at their practice facility in Oakland, and while Harrison Barnes, Festus Ezeli and Draymond Green will contribute in their own ways on the basketball court, they do share a common trait that made them attractive to the team.

The San Francisco Bulls, The City’s new minor-league hockey team, announced Tuesday they have signed their first player, 30-year-old right wing Peter Sivak.
The Slovakian native is a 13-year veteran of the Slovakian and Czech Extraligas, and set the European record for fastest goal from the start of a game when he scored 4.08 seconds into the first period on Jan. 18.
The move to San Francisco is one that makes sense for Sivak, whose wife is a doctor in the Bay Area.

Before the focus of the sailing world comes to San Francisco in August, the top teams in the world will compete in Newport, R.I., this week as part of the America’s Cup World Series.
The teams have been practicing on the East Coast since Friday, and racing will run from Thursday through Sunday.
Artemis Racing, representing the Royal Swedish Yacht Club, features the only American-born helmsman, though Terry Hutchinson said he doesn’t expect that to give him much of an advantage in the stateside legs of the series.
