Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 16-year-old girl in The City’s Bayview district.Officers saw the girl down on the sidewalk about 12:45 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Quesada Avenue and Jennings Street.
The officers began CPR and called for an ambulance after seeing that the girl was in distress, but she was pronounced dead on arrival, according to police.
The girl has been identified as Jaynice Johnson.

The fatal shooting of two young mountain lions in Half Moon Bay earlier this month has prompted a Monterey-based wildlife rescue group to petition the state Department of Fish and Game about its policies toward such animals.
On Dec. 1, game wardens shot the mountain lions that had taken refuge under the porch of a home in the 800 block of Correas Street earlier that week. The cubs were about 10 months old and each weighed about 30 pounds.
The decision to kill the animals was made in the name of public safety, Fish and Game officials said.

The California Department of Fish and Game this month is releasing thousands of trout into more than a dozen Bay Area lakes, to the delight of local anglers. Some of the fish weigh as much as 2 pounds, according to the department.

New charges were filed Friday in connection with the murder of a man who died after he and a woman were found bound and gagged on a street in Visitacion Valley.
Stephen Reid, 26, was found tied up and injured in the middle of the 900 block of Brussels Street around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, along with an 18-year-old woman. The woman, whose injuries were initially considered life threatening, is expected to recover, but Reid, who suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, died at the hospital shortly after he was found.

San Francisco-based Levi Strauss & Co. has committed to eliminating hazardous chemicals in the manufacturing of its products by 2020 following a Greenpeace-organized protest at its headquarters Wednesday morning, according to Greenpeace activists and company officials.
Protesters gathered at the clothier’s headquarters at 1155 Battery St. to protest the company’s use of certain chemicals in Mexican factories where some of its apparel is manufactured. The protest included a “foam river” in the plaza and models in Levi’s jeans wading in the “river.”

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying suspects in a July robbery in the Western Addition neighborhood that was caught on surveillance video.
The robbery was reported July 5 near Laguna and Cleary streets.
Two suspects pistol-whipped and robbed a victim at gunpoint before fleeing in a newer-model silver Dodge Charger with a white rag behind the rear headrest, according to police.

A man was struck and killed by a truck on Market Street on Monday afternoon. The collision was reported about 2:30 p.m. at Market and Beale streets, police spokesman Officer Carlos Manfredi said. The truck driver reportedly stopped and cooperated with investigators.A witness at the scene who declined to give his name said that as he was waiting to cross the street, he saw the truck hit the victim as the victim crossed Beale Street in a crosswalk. He said paramedics administered CPR, but to no avail.

A group of protesters who said they are fighting to protect homeowners shut down a bank Thursday morning in the Bayview district.
The roughly 25 protesters shut down the Wells Fargo branch at 3801 Third St. about 11 a.m. as part of a day of action organized by the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and Occupy Bernal.

A tree fell onto a home in San Francisco's Russian Hill neighborhood this morning, a fire department spokeswoman said.
The incident was reported at 7:23 a.m. on Lurmont Terrace, a small street just south of the famed crooked part of Lombard Street, fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.

A man was shot while standing in front of a liquor store in San Francisco's Mission District early this morning, police said.
The shooting was reported at 12:58 a.m. near 24th and Shotwell streets.
The victim was approached by a suspect in his early 20s who shot him in the torso and then fled in a black vehicle, according to police.
The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are not considered life-threatening, police said.

A series of powerful rainstorms is expected to hit the Bay Area beginning Wednesday morning, dumping up to 8 inches of rain on parts of the region, a National Weather Service forecaster said.
The storms will start around the time of the morning commute Wednesday and continue through the weekend, bringing winds of 40 to 50 mph and 1 to 3 inches of rain to most parts of the Bay Area, forecaster Steve Anderson said.
“This is certainly the biggest storm of the season so far,” Anderson said. “Typically, we get our big rain events in December and January.”

As the temperature drops, a number of winter shelters throughout the Bay Area are opening up to accommodate homeless people, keeping them safe on cold and rainy nights.
The San Francisco Interfaith Council offers shelter services throughout the winter.
St. Mark’s Lutheran Church at 1031 Franklin St. opened Sunday, serving as many as 65 people daily and providing dinner and breakfast. The shelter closes Dec. 8. Service runs from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
