An East Bay lawyer who is in the midst of disbarment proceedings testified at a State Bar Court hearing in San Francisco on Thursday that she is seeking to resign from the bar.
State Bar spokeswoman Laura Ernde confirmed that Lorna Brown, 67, of Berkeley has submitted a letter resigning from the practice of law. But Ernde said the California Supreme Court’s approval is needed when a lawyer seeks to resign during disbarment proceedings.

A man who was struck by a SamTrans bus in San Francisco’s Outer Mission neighborhood earlier this week has died, a spokeswoman for the transit agency said
Thursday.
Eugenio Mallari was hit when he stepped onto Mission Street near Valencia Street, just south of Cesar Chavez Street, around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.
SamTrans spokeswoman Christine Dunn said that at the time of the collision, the SamTrans Route 391 bus was traveling south, heading from downtown San Francisco to the Caltrain station in Redwood City.

A big rig collided with a MUNI light rail vehicle this evening in the city's Bayview District, causing minor injuries to three passengers, a Muni spokesman said.
Muni spokesman Paul Rose said it appears the truck was making an illegal U-turn near the corner of Third Street and Burke Avenue and hit the train shortly before 6 p.m.
Three passengers aboard complained of minor injuries, but none were transported to the hospital, Rose said. Muni is providing bus shuttles from Third and 23rd streets to the end of the line.

As people on the ground around the Bay Area experienced another sunny day, an all-solar-powered plane passed overhead Tuesday after taking off from Moffett Airfield in Mountain View.
The lightweight plane, which has a wingspan of 208 feet, was about 3,000 feet in the air as it flew above the Golden Gate Bridge, said Alexandra Gindroz, spokeswoman for the Swiss firm Solar Impulse, which owns the plane.

A woman was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation after jumping onto the train tracks at a San Francisco BART station on Monday night, an agency spokeswoman said.The woman, who is in her 50s, apparently jumped in front of a train around 9:50 p.m. at the 24th Street Mission station, BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said.The train traveled over her but did not make contact with her, Trost said.“There were no visible injuries,” she said.

A gun buyback that took place in San Mateo County on Saturday has been deemed a success by one of its organizers, U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier.
An estimated 250 firearms were collected at the buyback event, which was held at the South San Francisco courthouse, according to the office of the Peninsula Democrat.
Organizers paid more than $23,000 in exchange for the unwanted firearms — $100 for every handgun and $200 for rifles and assault weapons.

A month after a transient was crushed to death in a grisly incident on top of a San Francisco train station elevator, the medical examiner's office has released the man's name and are asking for the public's help in finding his family.
The man has been identified as 42-year-old David Thomas, according to Dr. Amy Hart, San Francisco's chief medical examiner. Thomas was found dead on the night of March 10 in an elevator shaft at the Montgomery BART and Municipal Railway station.

Employees at San Francisco General Hospital were ordered to shelter in place for nearly an hour this afternoon because of a report of a gunman near the hospital, police and hospital officials said.
Three people have been detained in connection with the incident, which began at about 1:45 p.m. when officers saw a man possibly armed with a handgun near Building 80/90 at the hospital campus at Potrero Avenue and 22nd Street, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.
