A 30-year-old Novato woman jumped from the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge into San Francisco Bay during a vehicle pursuit early this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.Officers spotted a Ford Focus weaving on southbound U.S. Highway 101 in San Rafael at about 2 a.m., the CHP said.The officers tried to pull the vehicle over, and it initially stopped at a traffic light at Bellam Boulevard. The San Francisco 49ers want fans to know "it gets better" with an online video released Friday that supports gay youth as part of a national project to stop anti-gay bullying -- the first such video to be created by an NFL team.

It could take weeks to identify the two elderly men who died in a fire at a debris-filled home in the Excelsior district Aug. 17, the Medical Examiner’s Office said Thursday.
The fire was reported at 3:34 a.m. in a two-story home at 171 Vienna St. The men died in separate bedrooms on the second floor. Authorities have not been able to reach family members to help identify the men and may have to rely on DNA testing, Medical Examiner’s Office officials said.
Neighbors said the victims were both elderly and had lived there for at least 20 years. Read More
Five people were rescued from the water near Candlestick Point on Saturday after a rowboat capsized, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.Two 12-year-olds were rowing near the point around 5 p.m. when their 5-foot boat began taking on water and sinking, Coast Guard spokesperson Mike Lutz said. Three adults on shore who saw the incident waded out to assist, but then were unable to get back to shore themselves. The San Francisco Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene, and a Coast Guard 47-foot motor lifeboat was able to pull all five to safety. Read More

Two people have been taken into custody in connection with a shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon in San Francisco’s Bayview district.
The 18-year-old male victim was shot twice on the corner of Third Street and Gilman Avenue around 3:45 p.m. by two suspects, according to police.

Bay Area home sales are continuing to rise, with the median sale price the highest it has been in nearly four years, according to a real estate report released Wednesday.
In the nine-county Bay Area, 8,461 homes were sold last month — a 22.9 percent increase from the same time last year, according to a report by the real estate information service DataQuick. The average figure for July, based on data recorded since 1988, is 9,371 home sales. Read More
A boy was beaten up and his BMX-style bicycle taken from him by two male suspects at a Menlo Park skate park Monday morning, police said.
The juvenile victim was at the Burgess Skate Park in the 600 block of Alma Street about 10:50 a.m. when two suspects approached him and started punching him, police Sgt. Matthew Ortega said.
While he was being hit, one of the assailants stole his bicycle and then the pair rode off, Ortega said. The boy didn’t suffer serious injuries.

A burglar used an unlocked window to gain access to a Redwood City home Tuesday, according to police.
Between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., a suspect found an unlocked window in a rear bathroom at a home in the 1400 block of Ebener Street, police Sgt. Sean Hart said.
The thief stole various electronic items and walked out the front door, Hart said.

More than 9,000 people sought treatment at local hospitals for health problems stemming from the massive fire at the Chevron refinery in Richmond last week, a health official told the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.
Dr. Wendel Brunner, the county’s public health director, said residents who were exposed to particulate matter complained of a variety of problems, including irritation to the nose, throat and eyes, along with asthma attacks, wheezing and difficulty breathing. Read More
The California Department of Motor Vehicles’ computer system was back up and running Tuesday afternoon after a problem knocked the DMV and a number of other state agencies offline for about four hours, a DMV spokeswoman said.

A health advisory was issued Tuesday because of flaring at the Shell refinery in Martinez, but it was canceled an hour later.
Randy Sawyer of Contra Costa Health Services said a vessel at the refinery became “overpressurized,” which activated a safety mechanism that releases pressure through flaring, which creates black smoke that contains sulfur dioxide and other combustible products.
