Jenn Bacha wasn’t too happy being woken at 5:30 in the morning Tuesday by Matt Warneke for their morning jog.
What Bacha, 34, didn’t know is that Warneke, her boyfriend of three years, had an engagement ring in his pocket throughout the run.
“I started thinking about a creative way to propose to her,” said Warneke, 26, an advertising executive at The San Francisco Examiner.
Warneke’s six-month proposal plan became a reality Tuesday as he and Bacha grabbed coffee after their run at the Marina Starbucks and picked up a copy of The Examiner.

San Francisco native Gabriela Hernandez was selected as one of 25 to receive a national teaching fellowship from the Woodrow Wilson-Rockefeller Brothers Fund for Aspiring Teachers of Color. City Council members unanimously approved $3.2 million in funding last week to kick off planning for athletic synthetic turf fields that will in the long term save the city money on maintenance costs.

As renowned professional cyclists from all across the globe gear up for the 2011 Amgen Tour of California, tour officials announced the details of the opening three stages of the annual race Wednesday.
The race, which is set to kick off May 15-22, will start on a Sunday on the south shore of Lake Tahoe. Stage 1 will continue for roughly 119 miles until cyclists reach North Lake Tahoe’s Northstar at Tahoe Resort. A plan to increase bicycling in San Mateo is being unveiled next week, though the proposal has many miles to travel and steep hills ahead before becoming a reality.
The Department of Public Works drafted a citywide plan that would construct a complete network of bicycle routes. The proposal will be available for public vetting Wednesday.
“What [these plans] entail is everything bicycle,” said Gary Heap, the senior engineer of the Public Works Department.
