A pedestrian was killed in a collision with a vehicle Monday night on the Golden Gate Bridge.

The fatality occurred at about 8:45 p.m. Monday night said Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District spokesperson Priya Clemens.

As of 10 p.m. Monday the northbound Golden Gate Bridge remained closed following the incident and authorities remained on scene, Clemens said.

Clemens said Bridge Patrol approached a man who appeared to be in his 30’s trespassing on the west bridge sidewalk. Bridge officers are trained in “soft” contact, Clemens said, but when officers approached “he ran across the bridge roadway trying to evade them.”

“He crossed the southbound lane, cross over the median barrier and was hit by northbound traffic,” Clemens said.

More details were not immediately available.
