An elderly hotel clerk nearly stomped to death in March has been discharged from the hospital as his two suspected attackers pleaded not guilty to the bloody assault Wednesday.
Jain was working his night clerk job at the Regency Inn on March 29 when prosecutors said the two men drove from Sacramento to attend a party inside one of the hotel rooms.
After complaints from other hotel guests, authorities say, Jain came to the room and knocked on the door at 4:30 a.m. and asked the partygoers to stop making so much noise.
“Out of nowhere, he was hit in the facewith a beer bottle,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe recently said.
Authorities believe the two men beat Jain for several minutes. Jain reportedly stands about 5 feet 5 inches; Tikoisuva is 6 feet 1 inch tall and 200 pounds, while Mualevu is 5 feet 9 inches tall and 190 pounds, Wagstaffe said.
Jain intends to cooperate in the prosecution of his alleged attackers, Wagstaffe said.
Jain is permanently disfigured from the attack and will require numerous plastic surgery procedures, Wagstaffe said.
Mualevu and Tikoisuva were arrested minutes after the attack within blocks of the hotel. They remain in San Mateo County jail and have been denied bail.
