A homeless man was arrested after he reportedly hit a San Francisco Park Ranger in the head with a bottle in Golden Gate Park during the 4/20 festivities, police Officer Albie Esparza said.

The ranger was reportedly sitting on his ATV in Sharon Meadow about 7:16 p.m. when the suspect in the assault, identified as 37-year-old Ali Walker of San Francisco, walked behind the ranger and hit him with a glass bottle in the head, Esparza said. The assault was reportedly unprovoked.

The suspect then tried to flee the scene but other officers apprehended him.

Walker was booked into County Jail on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, threatening an executive officer and three outstanding warrants, Esparza said.

The park ranger was hospitalized for his injuries, which were not life threatening. He had reportedly been wearing a helmet. He was also in full uniform and in a clearly marked park ranger vehicle when he was assaulted, Esparza said.

According to the Police Department's daily recap of events, there were at least two other crime-related incidents in Golden Gate Park on Monday connected with 4/20 activities. Police will be updating the media later Tuesday with full statistics on the number of crime-related incidents that took place in the park on Monday during 4/20 festivities, Esparza said.
